Setouchi is well known for mikan or mandarin
orange cultivation
because of its warm, Mediterranean-like climate.
Cycling or
hiking through mikan patches are great ways to enjoy
Setouchi's autumn
beauty.
Shikoku-no-Michi is a long circuit trail in Shikoku which covers
as long as 1545km combining old pilgrimage routs and hiking trails.
We picked up a section called Mikan-no-Michi, which literally means
orange trail for our day-ride.
The feature of this trail is mandarin orange trees that lines throughout the trail.
The most part of Mikan-no-Michi is paved and used as a farm road,
so the trail is relatively easy for any range of cycle travelers.
High-grade MTB descent techniques are not quite necessary here,
but you need to be cautious when you pass through slippery parts
piled with fallen leaves or branches.
